Green Leadership: President Tinubu Positions Nigeria as Global Sustainability Hub at ADSW 2026
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday January 13 2026 addressed world leaders and investors at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit in the United Arab Emirates. The President used the global platform to showcase Nigeria as a top destination for green investment and to highlight the success of his economic reforms.
Nigeria Signs Landmark Trade Deal with UAE
A major highlight of the visit was the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. This historic deal opens up duty free access for thousands of Nigerian products into the UAE market. The agreement is expected to unlock billions of dollars in new investment across sectors like renewable energy, aviation, agriculture, and digital trade.
Mobilizing 30 Billion Dollars for Green Growth
In his national statement, President Tinubu announced that Nigeria aims to mobilize 30 billion dollars annually in climate and green industrial finance. He explained that this funding will be used to speed up energy reforms and expand electricity access across the country. The President noted that Nigeria is already making progress with programs like the 750 million dollar DARES initiative, which is bringing clean power to over 17 million Nigerians.
Success of Economic Reforms
The President told the summit that Nigeria has now secured over 50 billion dollars in total investment commitments across various sectors since his administration took office. He highlighted the National Carbon Market and the Electricity Act of 2023 as key tools that are making it easier for private companies to invest in Nigerian projects.
INVESTOPIA Lagos 2026
To build on this momentum, the President announced that a joint Nigeria UAE investment forum called INVESTOPIA will be held in Lagos in February 2026. This event will bring global business leaders to Nigeria to turn investment ideas into actual projects that create jobs.
President Tinubu concluded by inviting international partners to join Nigeria in its journey toward a sustainable and prosperous future, emphasizing that the country is now more open for business than ever before.
