Achievements Security & Defense
Since 2023, the administration has fundamentally restructured Nigeria’s security landscape, increasing the sector’s budgetary allocation to a historic ₦5.41 trillion in the 2026 budget to drive a decisive end to insurgency and banditry. Key milestones include the elimination of over 15,500 terrorists and the successful surrender of more than 124,000 insurgents and their families in the North-East. By aggressively implementing a new National Counter-Terrorism Doctrine that mandates a unified command structure, the administration has successfully reclaimed hundreds of liberated communities, resulting in the safe return of thousands of displaced Nigerians and the restoration of farming activities in formerly high-risk zones.
Entering 2026, the administration has intensified its momentum by launching a $3.7 billion military modernization drive to equip the Armed Forces with cutting-edge platforms, including the delivery of advanced attack helicopters and high-altitude drones. This year’s focus has seen the successful deployment of trained Forest Guards nationwide to flush out criminal elements from forest enclaves, alongside the recruitment of 50,000 new personnel into the Nigeria Police Force to enhance grassroots visibility. By pioneering a “no mercy” classification that labels all unauthorized armed groups as terrorists, the government is successfully transitioning to an uncompromising enforcement model that has already led to a significant decline in kidnapping fatalities compared to 2023 levels.
Beyond kinetic operations, the President has successfully revitalized Nigeria’s Defence Industrial Complex, initiating a 10-year plan to achieve 100% local production of essential military hardware within the next five years. This strategic shift towards self-sufficiency has not only reduced reliance on foreign suppliers but has also created thousands of technical jobs in domestic ballistic engineering and vehicle assembly. Through the establishment of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, the administration is effectively drying up the supply of illegal munitions, ensuring that the Nigerian state remains the sole custodian of lethal force.
Furthermore, the administration has prioritized Intelligence-Led Policing by integrating the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) into a singular, high-tech “National Security Grid.” This digital superhighway provides real-time surveillance of strategic corridors, allowing for the disruption of criminal plots before they manifest. By investing in Artificial Intelligence for predictive threat analysis and satellite-based incident mapping, the President has provided security agencies with a technological edge that has tripled the success rate of civilian rescue missions and neutralized major ransom-negotiation networks.
Ultimately, these integrated reforms represent a shift toward a “Resilient Nigeria” where security is the foundation for all economic and social progress. By resolving long-standing communal conflicts through the ₦50 billion Pulako Initiative and pushing for constitutional amendments to enable State Policing, the President is building a security architecture that is both powerful and localized. This new era of national defence is positioning Nigeria as a pillar of stability in West Africa, ensuring a future where every Nigerian can live, work, and travel without fear.
