Achievements in Agriculture

Since 2023, the administration has fundamentally restructured Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, increasing the sector’s budgetary allocation from ₦228 billion to a record ₦826 billion to drive productivity and industrialization. Key milestones include the deployment of 2,000 modern tractors through a strategic partnership with John Deere, the distribution of 2.15 million bags of fertilizer to smallholder farmers nationwide, and the inauguration of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) to boost local value addition. By revitalizing 5,000 hectares of irrigation through the SPIN project and expanding dry-season farming for wheat and rice, the administration has successfully moved Nigeria toward year-round production, resulting in a significant decrease in market prices for essential grains and the creation of over 60,000 new jobs within the agricultural value chain.

Entering 2026, the administration has intensified its momentum by earmarking ₦2.3 trillion for the integration of technology and advanced infrastructure within the agricultural sector. This year’s focus has seen the launch of a comprehensive 10-year agricultural renewal plan specifically designed to empower youth agripreneurs, alongside the flag-off of the 2025/2026 dry season wheat programme which targets ₦160 billion in production value. By pioneering data-driven seed projects to guarantee higher yields and establishing mass agricultural settlements, the government is successfully transitioning from traditional farming to a high-tech agribusiness model that is projected to stabilize food prices and significantly reduce the nation’s reliance on food imports.
